This museum was created in 1977 by the inhabitants of Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves and was restored in 1985-1986.
Located near the baroque church of Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, there is a peasant life scene on the ground floor. Several "women" in local costume welcome you in an old-fashioned kitchen amidst practical utensils (stove, table, crockery, cutlery). They are accompanied by a "gentleman" dressed in 1900s attire, a shepherd and a very young child. A baby sleeps in its wooden cradle. There’s a lot of work to be done: spinning the wool, making the butter, unravelling the thread etc.
Opposite: samples of lace, ribbons, headdresses, colourful photos of indoors or parties.
Upstairs, all the old tools once used by the locals are enjoying a well-deserved break!
On the walls, many photos, drawings and very insightful information on the agro-pastoral life from the 17th to the 20th century: the house, school, alpine pasture, fires, avalanches, skiing, winter and summer tourism.
Each year, you can visit a temporary exhibition: mountaineering in the Arves valley, the school in Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves since 1720, the mountain chalets etc.
